President's WelcomeWelcome to the Mesa Education Association. We are a professional association advocating for quality public schools for every child. Our work includes advocating for better working conditions for teachers, providing professional growth opportunities, and networking and sharing the best teaching practices for the betterment of public schools. As I enter my 23rd year in teaching, I look back at the personal and professional growth opportunities the association has afforded me. I am proud of the work the association continues to do at the legislature. There are incredible teachers working for their profession in many ways that continue to amaze me. Their passion for their students and for their craft inspires me to become a better teacher. I would not have met these fantastic people if it was not for the association and the professional leadership training it has provided me. I cannot imagine being in the teaching profession and not belonging to a professional organization that advocates for a quality public school. MEA continues to rise up to the challenges in education and improve the lives and working conditions of the teachers and, as a result, the quality of education for every student. As the 2008 - 09 school year begins, I look forward to a new energy, spirit, and a sense of involvement in the profession. I challenge every public school teacher to do one new thing to advocate for his or her profession. Maybe it means joining the association, volunteering for a committee, contacting a legislator, or discussing your values of becoming a teacher to a neighbor or family member, especially those who do not support public education. It is through our shared stories that we can live up to the ideals of teaching being an esteemed profession worthy of public support. Have a great year and get involved.
